Essential Oils used in Aromatherapy

The oils are divided into various categories according to their volatility and effect on the body.
  • Top Notes
    These are fast acting, evaporate quickly, and leave a stimulating and uplifting effect on the body and mind.
    Example: Basil and Clary Sage.
  • Middle Notes
    These are moderately volatile, work more on the functioning of the body, i.e. digestion and menstruation.
    Example: Lavender.
  • Base Note
    These generally have a heavy & soft aroma and are very relaxing.
    Example: Patchouli, Sandalwood.
The essential oils used in the treatment of common problems are:
  1. Sandalwood.
  2. Lavender.
  3. Eucalyptus.
  4. Basil.
  5. Sage.
  6. Juniper.
  7. Peppermint.
  8. Jasmine.
  9. Patchouli.
  10. Rose.
These are used in proportion with carrier oils and used as massage oils on the body and face.

One can use these oils in
  1. Inhalation.
  2. Bath.
  3. Mouth wash.
  4. Foot and hand bath.
  5. Compress.
  6. Tea.
  7. Room fresheners.
  8. Perfumes.
  9. Directly pure application of oil.
