What are the chances of being overexposed to nuclear radiation?
Although one or two accidents have threatened people
living in the vicinity of
nuclear plants, governmental authorities are moving towards many missing
possibilities of the release of radioactive substances. To date, there
are no proven cases of harmful effects to people living near nuclear plants.
What would be the first-aid treatment should radiation
exposure actually take place?
People threatened with radiation exposure should evacuate
the area in a quick, orderly manner. Local authorities will give specific
instructions on how best to do it.
People already exposed should remove and discard all
clothing that was worn at the time of the exposure and should wash their
bodies thoroughly for a prolonged period of time in a shower.
Medical advice should be sought promptly. Evacuation
and admission to a hospital out of the area of radiation may be advised.
