Nilam Patel has been involved in training and management of hearing impaired children since the last 20 years. The educational set-up for hearing impaired in India does not allow these children to receive higher education in schools for hearing impaired, as most schools in special education are up to Primary Level with exception of few up to Secondary Level. Hence, MAINSTREAM EDUCATION is the BEST solution. The Philosophy of the program that I offer is Integration, Higher Education and subsequently equal opportunities for hearing impaired children. Thus, to encourage integration, the Trust was founded on 2nd November 1993 by me.

The Foundation gives SCHOLARSHIPS to those hearing-impaired students who are trained in normal educational set-up. For true integration in the society at all levels, the Foundation has taken one step further in achieving it's goals by starting a MATRIMONIAL BUREAU for Hearing Impaired adults of marriageable age.

Nilam Patel Bahushrut Foundation, a Public Charitable Trust was founded on 2nd November 1993. Bahushrut means a learned scholar who has acquired knowledge through hearing, those hearing impaired children who are educated in normal educational setup, do have to listen to their teachers in spite of their impairment. Thus the name of the trust is Nilam Patel Bahushrut Foundation.

The foundation encourages integration, higher education and subsequently equal opportunity for hearing impaired students by awarding scholarships and prizes to those who pass Secondary Level examination from Normal schools.

The intentions in founding the trust are honest and efforts made to achieve its goals are sincere but the resources are limited. The foundation is registered under Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, and has also received Income Tax exemption certificate under section 80-G.
