Contraceptive methods are preventive methods to help women avoid unwanted pregnancies. These methods are temporary as well as permanent as to prevent pregnancies resulting from coitus. A contraceptive should be safe, inexpensive, effective, simple to use and reversible. Family planning program provides a “Cafeteria choice”, which offers all methods from which an individual can choose. It is a responsible decision by an individuals and couples. Each contraception has its unique advantages and disadvantages.

The objectives of contraception are
  • To avoid unwanted births
  • Regulating time between pregnancies
  • To determine the number of children and plan the family.
  • Some of the contraception give protection from the sexually transmitted diseases
