Symbi to Hold Seminar on Laws Relating to Healthcare
The recent Niketa Mehta abortion case in Mumbai is a case in point which gives testimony to the fact that there has been an increased interaction between the medical and the legal professions. Keeping this aspect in mind, the Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) has organised a national-level seminar on various issues, including ‘Overview of laws relating to healthcare’. More than 900 delegates from across the country will participate in the twoday seminar to be held on May 1 and 2 at the Symbiosis school on Prabhat road.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Rajiv Yeravdekar, director, SCHC said, “The entry of a large number of national and international players in the health care sector in India has made the sector highly competitive, highlighting the need for professional managers at all levels. Inevitably, this has also resulted in diverting all attention towards the legal and statutory regulations governing various processes of this industry.”

The SCHC has identified a number of subjects for debate and discussion to be conducted in the presence of experts in the field. Yash Paul Bhatia, president, Astron healthcare will speak on standardisation and accreditation in healthcare sector while Ramakanta Panda, vice-chairman, Asian Heart Institute, will address the topic on customer relationship management.

Yeravdekar said, “The recent case of Niketa Mehta has brought in the legal aspect of medical care to prime focus. Hence, a mix of lawyers and medical professionals will take on this discussion on laws relating to healthcare and try and fill the loopholes in the process.”

Rajesh Tope, state minister of higher, technical and medical education and Shiv Kumar Sharma, commandant and dean of the Armed Forces Medical College will be the chief guests. Ram Jethamalani, former Union law minister, will also remain present.
