Medical research has found that cord blood stem cells can greatly contribute towards fighting possible lifethreatening diseases. September is observed as the Save Cord Blood Stem Cell awareness month.

Cryo–Save, Europe’s leading stem cell bank, has taken the initiative to educate people, researchers and doctors in India to eradicate myths of banking cord blood stem cells.

Parijatha Rao, director, laboratory operations, stressed on fostering greater understanding about cord blood stem cell storage and its potential applications for various life–threatening diseases. "We would like to encourage more expectant mothers to store cord blood as it can extend the mother’s care for a lifetime and thereby ensure future health of the child," he said. Cord blood stem cells have the potential to treat degenerative and induced diseases of that of the heart, kidney, lungs and the nervous system.

Around 25.3 percent of stem cell therapies are done to treat cancers and various neural diseases.
