A retina unit, set up exclusively to serve members of the public under the chief minister’s insurance scheme for lifesaving treatments, was inaugurated at Agarwal’s Eye Hospital on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the unit at the Anna Nagar branch of the hospital, minister for information technology Poongothai Aladi Aruna said so far 87,000 people have benefited from the scheme. Those who have not been able to afford quality eye care can now have their eyes checked under this scheme at Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, she added.
The list of eye diseases, treatments and surgeries included for financial assistance under the scheme include surgery and other procedures for detachment of the retina, surgery for glaucoma, vitrectomy, keratoplasty (corneal grafting), laser treatment for retinopathies and linear accelerator therapy (for senile macular degeneration).
