Spl Medical Camps in Five Talukas
Over 2,000 villagers from five talukas in the district will be rendered specialised medical consultation and screening on Saturday.Over 150 medical experts from five medical colleges in and around Pune will participate in the event. The needy patients will be taken to hospitals by respective medical colleges for further medication and surgeries.

“People living in Velha, Saswad, Junnar, Kasurdi and Khadkuli talukas will be screened by doctors from the BJ Medical College, Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College, DY Patil Medical College, AFMC Medical College and the Talegaon Medical College, respectively,” said Arun Jamkar, dean of the B J Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital.

With this, the village adoption initiative of medical colleges will be taking its first step.

The state had asked the medical colleges to provide health care facilities to villagers in the district with an aim to take specialised medical services to rural population, said Jamkar,

The diagnostic camps will be held at the primary health centres and rural hospitals, where people will be screened. They will be further screened by the specialised units of the hospitals. The needy people will be taken to hospitals by respective colleges for further medication and surgery. If necessary, minor surgeries will also be carried out at these camps, Jamkar said.

The project is funded by the National Rural Health Mission and the hospitals providing the service will be reimbursed for expenses, including ambulance charge, travelling expense and other remuneration.

“All medical colleges and hospitals should come forward to further this cause. The move will reduce the burden on tertiary care hospitals like Sassoon as people needing medical care will be taken care of in their villages itself,” said Sharad Agarkhedkar, president of the city chapter of the Indian Medical Association.
