A Rs 158 crore budget has been allotted for the project under NHRM
IN A bid to improve health services in Lucknow, the state government has planned to run around 1,000 new ambulances in the city.
For the scheme, planned under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), a budget of Rs 158 crore has been allotted.
Of this, 60 per cent of expenses will be borne by the Centre and the rest by the state government.
The Chief Minister, Mayawati, at a review meeting held on Friday, "directed that 1,000 new ambulances should soon be engaged in the service of the people," said an official press release. The scheme is expected to be run under the public private partnership (PPP) mode. Each ambulance will have at least three staff. All will be equipped with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS).
The ambulance service will be provided free of cost to the patients.
"Though the vans will primarily be for patients of government hospitals, they can also serve private hospitals," said a senior NRHM official.
