The state government will soon launch a family mediclaim insurance scheme for all families whose annual income is up to Rs one lakh. A presentation on the proposed scheme was held for chief minister Ashok Chavan at the Sahyadri on Monday. This insurance will benefit 2.4 crore families across the state.

“We will shortly be inviting tenders to appoint an insurance firm to handle the scheme. Families will be able to benefit from the cashless transactions,” said a government official. The Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayi Yojana is a better version of the existing Jeevandayi Yojana, which is applicable only to BPL families.

The scheme will first be launched in six districts, Dhule, Gadchiroli, Raigad, Amravati, Solapur and Nanded. Chavan is keen on launching the scheme on August 15.
