THE Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) and Dr H L Trivedi Institute of Transplantation Sciences (ITS) have announced that they will perform 10 kidney transplants on World Kidney Day on Thursday.

IKRDC-ITS also claimed that they will perform laparoscopic surgery for the kidney transplants, which requires vascular anastomosis or connection of blood vessels.

Addressing a media conference, Dr L Trivedi said: "Our team will make ecord by performing 10 kidney nsplantation surgeries on a single y. These 20 operations with 10 nors and as many recipients will ben by 7 am and will end 8 pm on ursday."

He added: "Simultaneously, eight eration theatres and two other the es to support the surgeries will be tivated. These will have 15 anaesetists, 15 surgeons and 30 other ffers and the whole support team." of Urology and Transplantation, said: “We have extended laparoscopy to kidney transplantation. The operation is time-bound and should be finished within an hour to have optimum function of the transplanted kidney.” He added, “Till date, only one case report has been published by a Spanish surgeon in 2009.” Dr Modi had successfully performed two such transplants on February 15 and March 4.

Both the patients, Ramesh Dabhi (48) and Sanjay Sharma (31), were from Rajasthan.
