Start your day with a walk – that was the message of ‘Walk4wellness’, a health camp organized on Wednesday by the Apollo Hospitals in association with the Times Group and Times Wellness on World Health Day as an initiative to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Many who took their morning walk at Chennai Tower Park, Nageswara Rao Park, Corporation Park in RA Puram, Bharatiyar Park, Dhandeeswara Nagar, Gokulam Park in Ashok Nagar, Panagal Park, Marina and Elliots beach between 6 and 8am in the morning were offered free blood pressure, sugar, height and weight checks. As a take–home message for a healthy diet, they were given an apple each.

The event was a part of the global campaign ‘1,000 cities – thousand lives’, with urbanisation and health as the theme. “We believe that periodic checkups can ensure that any disease is detected in time and treated promptly to control its spread, limit duration and minimise its effects. With lifestyle diseases now affecting people at an increasingly younger age, parents should take cognizance of this and make necessary changes to the family’s lifestyle to ensure their health and well being,” said Apollo Hospitals CEO Satyanarayan Reddy.

The Walk4wellness initiative had over 200 people getting their health check–up done in each camp.

The programme was part of a nationwide campaign by the Apollo Hospitals in collaboration with Times Wellness, also held in Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.

Free yoga classes
The Chennai Corporation has planned for free yoga classes for the public in 19 parks in the city to help reduce stress levels among citizens, said mayor M Subramanian. The classes will be taught to people of all age groups by professionals.
