‘Check weight to keep heart healthy’
The UP chapter of the Cardiology Society of India (CSI) organised a walkathon on the occasion of World Heart Day on Sunday. The 45–minute walkathon began at 5.30am and witnessed participation of more than 250 people. The walkathon culminated at the Lohia Park.

Talking on the measures to keep heart ailments at bay, Dr VS Narayan from the department of cardiology, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) and president of CSI said: "Most of the heart diseases occur due to overweight. It is very important for one to cut weight by having control over diet and then maintaining it by regular exercises."

Dr Aditya Kapoor from the department of cardiology, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute said smoking in any form, active or passive, and tobacco (be it chewing or others) is one of the major reasons behind heart diseases. He expressed concerns on the use of cooking oil.

Interestingly, more than 50 per cent people in the country do not know that they have high blood pressure. Many do not consider consulting a doctor. Only 10–15 per cent people get their BP checked and take medicines for it.
