The Jehangir Hospital and Ishanya Foundation have announced a fund raising initiative for setting up a juvenile diabetes clinic at the hospital on Wednesday.
"The clinic will strive to educate and change the attitude of young patients and their parents in coping with this condition. Experiences will be shared and children will be taught how to manage their lives effectively. Most importantly, given the right resources, an entirely new community, equipped to fight this battle with dignity, will emerge," said George Epan, CEO, Jehangir Hospital.
In India, approximately 70,000 children are detected with juvenile diabetes every year, i.e. almost 200 children per day. There is a 5% rise in the number of patients every year. We have decided to come up with a clinic fully dedicated to juvenile diabetes at the present Ishanya Diabetic Centre in the hospital, he said.
Parul Mehta, trustee, Ishanya Foundation, said, "The initiative is an effort to provide the best available facilities for cheaper costs to needy patients, who cannot afford hospital expenses. To raise funds for the clinic, the Ishanya and Jehangir hospital have jointly organised a play titled "Hidden Agendas" – a contemporary family drama directed by Janine Misquitta, at Ishanya Amphitheatre at 7pm on February 26. We appeal all Puneities to participate in huge numbers and make it a grand success."
