The Deccan Gymkhana police have booked a 30-year-old woman for allegedly forging the signature of her 51-year-old acquaintance on a consent form for in vitro fertilisation (IVF) procedure at a private hospital here.

The suspect’s acquaintance, who was her professor in an engineering college, has lodged a complainant against her at the Deccan Gymkhana police station. The police have booked the woman under section 419 (cheating by impersonation), 465 (forgery), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code.

Senior inspector Manohar Joshi said that when the alleged incident of forgery took place on September 6, 2011,thecomplainantwasin thecustody of the Loni Kalbhor police. The woman had lodged a complaint against him for allegedly harassing her.

Joshi said that the woman and the professor hadbeen having an affair for the last three years. “As per the statement of the professor, the woman did not wish to marry him, but wanted a child from him. When the professor objected,thewoman threatenedtoend her life. Later, the professor donated his sperm for IVF, following which the woman conceived in 2009.”

The pregnancy,however,endedin a miscarriage, but the woman lodged a complaint at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station against the professor, his wife and son, accusing them of causing her abortion.

In 2010, the professor again donated his sperm, but that pregnancy also ended in miscarriage.

On September 5, 2011, the woman lodged a complaint against the professor and his wife for allegedly harassing her. The Loni Kalbhor police arrested the professor the same day.

On September 6, when the professor was in the custody of the Loni Kalbhor police, the woman went to a privatehospitalfor theIVF procedure. The procedure requires consent from the husband or relative of the woman. “There was a person with the suspect, who, she claimed, was the professor. She forged the signature of the professor on theconsentform andcompleted the procedure,” Joshi said.

The professor came to know about it and lodged a complaint, Joshi said. The woman is now one month pregnant, he added.
