Once an Alcoholic always an Alcoholic – Mrs. Bapat

Oh my God! What am I reading?, it means my husband will behave in this way throughout his life. My children and I will always have to cruel avoid kill our aims and ambitions.10–12 years back my husband Mr. Sakharam Bapat was fully addicted to alcohol everyday he got up gave beatings, abused us, shout and scream like every drunkard with that he has to leave job. Then we had to face economic/financial crises but he was drinking. He always said he wants to stop drinking but is unable to, then, I thought to myself I should help him but did not know how.

And on the someday I read in Sunday Sakal Newspaper the information about Muktangan De–addiction center. Some deducts had shared their experiences, this was a ray of hope to me. I got the exact direction of helping my husband 12 years back he was admitted for the first time at Muktangan. In the family session, I for the first time met Dr. Anita Avchat my husband told Dr. Avchat that my life has a hearing problem and so I drink, everyone at home also said the same so I also thought but Dr. Avchat said that you should not worry because there is not relation between your hearing problem and his drinking we have so many patients whose wives can hear clearly still they are drinking. I felt better with this statement and said to myself at least the beginning was good here people think in a different way so I will get that needed help only here. 12 years back I gained this confidence and is increasing day by day. After this we planned our future with the help of Muktangan.

Addiction is a disease and can be treated this is taught by Muktangan. With this they also said it reoccurs and this I am experiencing till date because Sakharam is on/off but he had completely stopped for 2–3 years and started his own business, as he was.

As he was readmitted there was a change in his thinking pattern and was gaining confidence. He is satisfied with the thought that he can do something now we are financially well settled. As we are in regular contact with Muktangan his negative feelings are decreasing and is ready to face any situation. We are participating in the family and social activities so here we have a sharing of views and also got new friends mining with elatives and new friends has helped him to stay away from addiction. The person who completed forgot himself because of his addiction now is living a happy life with the help of Muktangan. Now he understands his duties towards his wife and children.

Muktangan not only helps the patient but also his family. The head of the family is disturbed and so the whole family has lost its confidence and were habitual to look down. But because of Muktangan guidance we all gained our lost confidence and thought to ourselves that whatever the circumstances may be we will face them and go ahead. This is a fruit of madam’s guidance.

After Dr. Anita Avchat’s death her daughter is also working on same lines though she is having less experience and age wise also she is young she works efficiently all the other co–workers, councilors, friends are helping Mr. Sakharam to lead a de–addict’s life. I wish God gives Sakharam the will power to face life bravely.
