Report on 2nd Depression Support Group Meeting
aarogya.com and Anand Path held the second meeting of the Depression Support Group at Sambhaji Park, Pune. “Nirdhar”, had its members coming for the meeting, which was an interactive and enriching experience for the organisers and the participants as well. A talk was given by Dr. M. V. Hegde, retd. Professor of Biochemistry at University of Poona. He elaborated on the supplementation studies conducted at the NCL, Pune regarding the effects of Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin C and Vitamin E on Schizophrenic and Bipolar Depression Patients. He shared with the group the effect of diet on behavior, of how we can eat healthy to live healthy.

He stressed on a vegetarian diet rich in green vegetables, sprouted beans, fresh fruit juices, and fruits. A non–vegetarian should go for certain types of fish only which provide the essential nutrients to our body, apart from meat and chicken. Omega 3 is a daily supplement required by the brain just as Vitamin C is required by the body. Linseed is very rich in Omega 3. Apart from the above mentioned foods, this should be given to the nursing mother as that is when this nutrition is most required. Lack of these nutrients lead to stress, which is a triggering factor for many psychological illnesses.

Madam Kusum Warty spoke about the Japanese art of Mahikari, which is parallel to Reiki and is based on the karma principle, which says your deeds come back to you. One of the participants has been taking Mahikari from her and reported of immense relief. It is not a therapy or treatment but a cleansing of the soul. The soul is disturbed whereby we may commit unhealthy deeds or suffer unnecessarily than working towards finding a solution.

The next meeting will be held on
Date: 3rd December 2000.

Venue
Sambhaji Park, J. M. Road,
Pune 411 005, Maharashtra, India.
Time: 10:30 a.m.
