Many things can cause a sore mouth or throat including dental work, infection, medications, surgery and radiation therapy. You may find that certain foods irritate a tender mouth or throat. You will feel better if you select foods carefully and take proper care of your mouth. The following suggestions will make eating easier and will promote healing in your mouth and throat. Everyone is different. Experiment to find foods that are most soothing for you. Try eating soft, easy–to–swallow foods. The following soft foods are often well tolerated:

cold liquids
cooked cereal
cottage cheese
cream soup
creamed chicken
custard
ice cream
macaroni and cheese
mashed potatoes
meatloaf and gravy
malts or milkshakes
milk toast
pancakes
pudding
salmon loaf with cream sauce
sherbet
soft–cooked eggs
soft fruits
tuna casserole
tuna salad well–cooked vegetables
yogurt
broth
cream soups

melted butter or margarine
