Possible Complications with Constipation
  • Hemorrhoids, laxative dependency.
  • Hernia from excessive straining.
  • Bowel obstruction.
  • Chronic constipation.
  • Depression in severe cases.
Prognosis of Constipation
When the constipation persists despite the usual conventional measures, laxatives or enemas can be taken. Mild laxatives should be tried first (like isabgol, sofium docussate). If not found helpful, stronger laxatives (such as castor oil, magnesium–based laxatives) can be tried. These can be given orally or rectally. The side–effect commonly is diarrhea. Enemas with regular tap water or soap water or phospho–soda enemas can also be tried.

Constipation is easily curable by taking enough fluids and fibers. If necessary, drugs like laxatives can be used.
