The medi–cities will have MBBS, nursing, dental and physiotherapy colleges in addition to 350–bed hospitals at both Mohali and Hoshiarpur
Punjab’s Mohali and Hoshiarpur districts would by next year have two medi–cities focusing on the needs of the rural populace, the sponsoring group said here on Wednesday.

The Rayat–Bahra group, which is running a chain of educational institutes in Punjab, will invest Rs 500 crore to set up the two medi–cities, a top official of the group said.

Announcing the details here, group Vice–chairman Gurvinder Singh Bahra said that the medi–cities would focus on the needs of rural populace of the north Indian state.

The first phase of both the projects, coming up in Mohali and Hoshiarpur districts, will be completed next year, reports IANS quoting Bahra.

“Gradually we will expand our campuses in the form of full–fledged medi–cities, which will have MBBS, nursing, dental and physiotherapy colleges in addition to 350–bed hospitals at both Mohali and Hoshiarpur,” Bahra said.

“We have earmarked 25 acres for these projects each at Mohali and Hoshiarpur. The whole project will be completed in five phases in the next five years and in each phase, we will invest Rs 100 crore,” he added.

Bahra said, “The group has already got the approval from Punjab government and we will follow the guidelines of Medical Council of India for recruiting staff and admitting students.”

Both the medi–cities will offer 6,000 direct and indirect employment in the state, he added.
