The deceased: Balaji Kadam The deceased: Balaji Kadam
Bibvewadi resident says his younger sibling died after local homeopath ‘administered’ him an allopathic injection for common cold
A 25–year–old Bibvewadi youth who aspired to join the police force lost his life, allegedly due to an allopathic injection carelessly administered by a local homeopath.

The deceased has been identified as Balaji Kadam. His elder brother Dattatray, a resident of upper Indira Nagar, has blamed one Dr Avinash Gangawane for causing Balaji’s death and filed a complaint at Sahakarnagar police station on Tuesday. Dattatray said, “We are financially backward. Balaji and I had come to Pune in search of a job. Balaji wanted to join the police force and after passing Class XII exams, he started working hard to get into the force. He had attempted the police entrance exams twice ear–lier, but he failed. This time, he was working really hard.”

‘Careless Doc Killed My Brother with An Injection’
Dattatray added, “The police entrance exam was scheduled for August 10, but on August 3, he got a normal cold. He didn’t want to fall sick during the exams and so he went to Dr Gangawane’s Anandi Clinic in Bibvewadi. Dr Gangawane gave him an injection and some tablets. But the next day, Balaji started feeling pain in the hip where doctor had given him an injection. So, Dr Gangawane advised him to put some ice on that area, assuring him that the pain would reduce. However, he did not get any relief and he again went to the clinic. Then Dr Gangawane gave him another injection and some tablets, but still his pain did not reduce and he got some swelling on the face instead.”

Dattatray said, “But Balaji’s condition worsened. Dr Gangawane then advised to take him to Chandralok Hospital in Bibvewadi for a check–up. He was admitted in Chandralok hospital. When a surgeon, one Dr Pote, examined Balaji, he found that there was an infection on the hip where Balaji was given an injection and the doctor advised surgery. We admitted him in KEM Hospital where the doctor told us that the infection has reached his kidneys and on August 8, Balaji was operated upon. But his condition did not improve and at 10.30 pm on the same day, my brother died.”

Dattatray added, “The post–mortem report says Balaji died because of the infection caused by the injection. Dr Gangawane’s careless treatment cost my brother his life.”

Inspector Bajirao Bhosale of Sahakarnagar police station said, “A case has been lodged against Dr Gangawane. Now, as per Supreme Court’s guidelines, a panel of doctors should conduct an inquiry into the case and submit a report. We are going to write a letter to the Dean of Sassoon Hospital, requesting him to conduct an inquiry. On the basis of that re–port, further action will be taken.”
