Podar hospital will embark on a unique immunity building drive called Swarna Pashan for infants, next month. The doctors will give drops to infants that will boost immunity, mental and physical strength.

"It is a collaborative effort of the six Ayurvedic colleges in Mumbai. Our first camp will start at RA Podar Ayurvedic Medical hospital," said Dr Kuldeep Kohli, director of Ayurveda department.

As per the scriptures, two to four drops are fed to the child once a month on the auspicious Pushanakshatra day. "We are starting our campaign on December 23. On this day, the potential of benefiting the child is considered optimum," said Kohli.

Swarna Pashan, considered an Ayurvedic vaccination, is a mixture of different medicinal herbs mixed with ghee made from cow’s milk and honey.

"These drops can be fed to the child after birth for a whole year. As the brain development at this time is nearly 90%, the child will become capable of developing superior memory and intelligence. It also protects the child from various illnesses," said Dr Usha Deshmukh, head of paediatric department, Podar hospital. The practice of feeding infants these drops has been written in Hindu scriptures, she said.

Deshmukh said that the department decided to start the campaign owing to the lack of awareness about the benefits of Ayurveda.
