The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to use an ayurvedic oil at mosquito breeding spots. The pilot project will be started at selected places soon.

This year, the BMC found several more cases of malaria compared to 2009. Since during October and November the number of patients rises, the BMC is particularly engaged in controlling mosquitoes.

The BMC is preparing a short film on malaria to create awareness among the people. Bollywood and Marathi actor Nana Patekar is featuring in the film, which will be shown in theatres before the start of movies. "The ayurvedic oil was not in the Central Malaria Control Board’s list. That is why the BMC is using it on pilot basis," said additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar.
