For Gupta family, the ideal way to observe the second death anniversary of their two daughters – Mehak (6) and Diya (4) – who were killed in the May 13 serial blasts is to help the poor and needy on this day. The family, under the banner of Mehak and Diya Memorial Charitable Trust, is organising a blood donation camp at Santokba Durlabji Hospital on Thursday.
Sachin Gupta, father of Mehak and Diya, has invited all the blast survivors and their families to make this event a grand success.
“The idea is to share the pain and suffering of those who have lost their near and dear ones in the blast,” added Sachin. From past two days, the family is busy making preparations for the camp.
Sachin, the elder son in the family recounted that fateful day when blast took place. “My daughters accompanied with my mother to the Hanuman temple to distribute sweets to the poor when blast took place,” added Sachin. His mother survived and was rushed to the hospital.
He recalled those terrible two hours of his life between 7 and 9 pm on the fateful day when they were searching every nook and corner of the Walled City hoping to find their daughters alive. “I was speechless when I got the news that I lost both my daughters. But the family controlled their emotions as their mother who was injured in the blast was in critical condition in the hospital,” added Sachin.
Previous year, the family had awarded scholarships to the meritorious girls’ students of a government school in the Walled City. To keep the flame of our daughters alive, we have decided to introduce several charitable programmes to run throughout the year.
Sachin says that he is blessed to have another daughter, Khushbo, which was born last year. Sweety Gupta, wife of Sachin, said, “I found the glimpse of both my daughters in Khushbo.” When TOI asked how you got the idea of starting a charitable trust, Govind Gupta, the eldest son of the family said, “It almost took us a year to overcome the trauma. Thereafter, we decided to do something for the benefit of society.”
