The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, London, has conferred the ‘honorary fellowship honoris causa’ on gynaecologist Sanjay Gupte for his contribution to the advancement of the practice of obstetrics and gynaecology. Gupte will receive this fellowship in June at the 32nd British International Congress in Belfast. Gupte is the first person from Pune to get this honour of the prestigious fellowship. He is currently also the president of FOGSI (The Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India). He is also an elected member of the Maharashtra Medical Council (MCI). He is active in efforts to reduce maternal mortality in India, through the ‘Reaching the unreached’ initiative of the FOGSI. There are more than 40 national and international research paper presentations to his credit and he has contributed to many textbooks on gynaecology and obstetrics.
