The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will on October 15 distribute free Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) bus passes to physically and mentally challenged people that it had promised in its budget. Mayor Mohan Singh Rajpal will give away the passes at a function to be organised at the Corporation.

The Corporation had recently published an advertisement inviting physically and mentally challenged people to apply for the free passes. It has received 1,850 applications in response.

"We will initially give away 100 passes while the remaining will be handed over in phases as and when their verification process is completed, probably within a month," deputy commissioner Dyaneshwar Molak has said.

The PMC has set aside nearly Rs 6 crore to undertake various welfare schemes for the physically and mentally challenged people in the city.
