Prayer and fasting marked the observation of Good Friday in the city on Friday. The day is observed solemnly to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Prayer services were held across churches in the city and the Christian faithful marked the day with fast and abstinence.

The Way of the Cross, which enacts Christ’s journey to his death on Mount Calvary, was held in the morning. Most churches were packed to capacity during the evening service, where Holy Mass was held.

Bishop of Poona, Rt Rev Thomas Dabre, presided over the evening service at St Patrick’s Cathedral. The parishioners of St Ignatius Church, Khadki, held the Way of the Cross on Mula road. The youths of Good Shepherd Parish, Lullanagar, performed a skit during the morning service.

The Catholic Association of Poona organised a blood donation camp in nine churches in the city in the morning. A similar blood donation drive was held on the previous Sunday too. As many as 600 bottles of blood were collected during the two camps, said CAP president Diego Almeida.
