Dr Sakti Das, professor of urology at the University of California, US, and his team of volunteer medicos are the first ones to reach places devastated by natural calamities. Now, Das has come all the way come to Mahuva to serve underprivileged patients. He is accompanied by psychiatrist Ryan Shackelford and Rihana Shanti Menon, who is undergoing surgical residency at University of California.

Dr Das and his team have done more than 68 urology surgeries and operations at Sadhbhavna Trust Hospital at Vadli, 5 km from Mahuva. Urologists from Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad joined them during the medical camp. "Mainly, we operated on patients who required surgeries related to kidney and urology," Dr Das told TOI.

Dr Das has come to Mahuva for the second consecutive year for this purpose. "We want to reach out to as many underprivileged people as possible. I believe that ‘I serve therefore I am’. I have special qualification and ability. So, I have to use this ability for the betterment of society at large," said Dr Das.
