AYURVEDA hospitals in the state will soon introduce Yoga as a therapeutic treatment alongside medicine to cure chronic diseases. The first experiment will take off this week at the Regional Ayurveda Hospital in Shimla.
In the first phase, the hospital will treat patients undergoing treatment for lower backache. Dr Ashwin Sharma and Dr Shailee Bansal have been imparted specific training to start Yoga treatment.
“In the later months, we will combine Yoga treatment with medicines for the patients of hypertension, high–blood pressure, obesity, cervical spondylosis and stomach–related diseases,” said Dr Sharma.
Starting from Wednesday, he added, the hospital would conduct nine sessions per week in morning and evening shifts. He said these should not be seen as yoga learning sessions for the public, but targeted treatment therapy for patients under the guidance of trained doctors, so that after three weeks they could start these exercises at home on their own.
The facility is proposed to be started in other hospitals later.
Many doctors in the state have got training for it from Keivalyadhama Yoga Institute, Lonavala.
