The city will hold the 42nd World Congress On Clinico Patho–Physiology of Pregnancy. The event will witness a slew of brainstorming sessions and updation related to newer modalities of early detection, prevention and treatment of pregnancy complications.
"Maternal mortality in India is the most distressing issue we as gynaecologists face and feel responsible for. High risk pregnancy is the most contributing factor. This conference will act as a forum to have brainstorming and updation related to newer modalities of early detection, prevention and treatment of pregnancy pathogenesis," said senior gynaecologist Sanjay Gupte, president of the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI).
The event will be held in association with the Organisation Gestosis – an international organisation dedicatedly working towards initiating research in pregnancy complications and establishing standards of practice based on this evidence for the past 4O years.
"We have many international experts in the field as faculty for the conference. This will help us reach the desired goal," added Gupte.
The highlights of this conference include consensus meetings to finalise crisp protocols to suit the varied needs of our country, a high–level technical advisory group meeting of the key persons with the bureaucrats for strategically planning the crusade and deliberations by the national and international stalwarts from all over the world.
"Sanjay Gupte is the chairman of the Steering committee of Organisation Gestosis, and therefore, the host of this benchmark international event. He is the first Indian to hold this position," said Devendra Shirole, former state president of Indian Medical Association (IMA).
The National Eclampsia Registry which was initiated in Pune in August 2008 will complete two years of existence and is the first web enabled registry collecting information regarding Eclampsia – a condition known to seriously complicate pregnancy. The reporters of this registry will be felicitated at the event.
The conference will be inaugurated at the hands of professor Sabratnam Arulkumaran, president of the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, on Friday, August 27, in the presence of academician and a gynaecologist Vidya Yerawadekar, principal director of the Symbiosis International University.
