HP To Organise Ayurveda Mela

To highlight the superiority and quality of Ayurveda over other systems of medicine, a three-day Arogya Mela would be organised by the Himachal Pradesh Ayurvedic Department in Una district from September 25, State Health Minister Rajiv Bindal said today.
Free medical camps will be organized during the Mela where specialists in various disciplines of Ayurveda like yoga, nature care, Unani and Homeopathic system of medicine will be present, he said.Research and development activities in field of Ayurveda would also be highlighted at the Mela where new inventions by different institutions of the state and central governments would be highlighted, Bindal said.
The government would also launch another special programme to promote Ayurvedic health care system under the Ayush Department with the central government’s assistance. Doctors in the state are being trained in Panchakarma and Himachal Pradesh would be second state after Kerala to introduce this system, Bindal said. However, he ruled out promoting Panchakarma to boost tourism.
Bindal said the state government has also decided to start Ayurveda B. Pharmacy Degree College and Ayurveda nursing Degree College at Paprola in Kangra district and each four years degree course will have 30 seats. The department has started the process to establish a Centre of Excellence in Dravaguna and Medicinal Plants at the cost of Rs 5 crore and a Centre of Excellence in Geriatric Healthcare at Paprola.
