Medical Education Minister Vijaykumar Gavit on Sunday announced Rs 45 crore for a new 11–storey building at Sassoon General Hospital. Of this, Rs 25 crore will be approved within three days, Gavit assured doctors at B J Medical College and Sassoon hospital.The minister assured an increase in the undergraduate seats at B J Medical College from 200 to 250 and creation of six super specialty departments.
TATE Medical Education Minister Vijaykumar Gavit on Sunday announced Rs 45 crore for an 11–storeyed building to come at Sassoon General Hospital.
While Rs 20 crore will be granted for development work this year, another Rs 25 crore will be approved within three days, Gavit assured the doctors of BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital.
He also announced a hike in salaries of professors and associate professors who have been appointed on a contract, while disallowing the government medical doctors to continue private prac tice. The Medical Education Minister further assured an increase in number of undergraduate seats at BJ Medical College from 200 to 250 and creation of six super–specialty departments.
District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, State Finance Minister Sunil Tatkare were present at the function. The new building will accommodate the departments of TB, skin, orthopaedics, ophthalmology and ENT, Dr Arun Jamkar, dean, BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, said.
The building will also house another 360 beds in addition to the existing 1,300 beds at the government hospital.
The building will be constructed within two years, assured Tatkare, who pointed out that Sassoon General Hospital has played an important role in the management of Swine flu patients and those who were injured during the German Bakery blast.
Pawar called upon both ministers to expedite the work on the new building at the Hospital.
Dean Jamkar also urged the ministers to pursue the proposal of according the status of All India Institute of Medical Sciences to BJM College.
Health Secretary Milind Mhaiskar, Director, Medical Education and Research, Dr W B Tayade, Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal were also present.
