Safe endoscopy is the theme of a three-day international annual conference of the Indian Association of Gynaecologist Endoscopists (IAGE) to be held in the city from Friday. The IAGE aims to practice safe endoscopy and advanced therapeutic techniques that provide less invasive treatments for gynaecological conditions. Around 700 delegates from across the country are expected to attend the event.
"Acquisition of laparoscopic skills requires formal training, dedication, commitment and constant practice. The theme of IAGE is ‘safe endoscopy’, which essentially means to improve the safety of surgical care by ensuring adherence to proven standards of care in all the laparoscopy centres," gynaecologist Sunita Tandulwadkar, head of gynec department at The Ruby Hall Clinic, said while addressing a news conference on Wednesday. Surgical care has been an essential component of healthcare worldwide.
WHO has undertaken a number of global and regional initiatives to address surgical safety. "Our goal is to conduct workshops and conferences, especially cities and towns where IAGE may not have a presence," said Tandulawadkar.
